Chef Donaldson flies Africa’s flag at Global Chef Competition

Respected Executive Chef at NH Sandton, Chef Donaldson Madubela, has been selected to represent South Africa and the African continent at the 2025 Global Chef Competition Senior Semi-Finals, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates. He is one of three chefs chosen from Africa representing South Africa, Namibia and Morocco, proudly flying the flag for African culinary talent on a global stage alongside two chefs from the Middle East, representing Syria and the UAE.

With over 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Chef Donaldson has built a solid reputation both locally and abroad. His love for cooking was sparked by his father, and over the years, he has sharpened his skills in some of the world’s most esteemed kitchens. At Tradewinds Restaurant at NH Sandton, he brings guests a sophisticated yet approachable five-course menu that celebrates South African flavours with an international twist.

His selection for the competition by well-known South African chef and mentor Trevor Boyd speaks volumes about his talent, creativity and commitment to his craft. Chef Donaldson has also competed in other high-level culinary events, such as the Chaine des Rôtisseurs Competition and was named Cities Chef of the Year in 2008.

If he makes it through the semi-finals, Chef Donaldson will move on to compete in the global finals in Wales in 2026, where he’ll face off against some of the best chefs from around the world.

The South African Chefs Association wished Chef Donaldson and Chef Trevor well ahead of the competition. “All the best Chef Donaldson Madubela and Chef Trevor Boyd, SA Chefs and the whole South African culinary and hospitality community is behind you all the way. Fly the 🇿🇦 high and remember that we are proud of you.”
