A Bold New Chapter: SA Chef Media Evolves into Gastronomy Africa

Dear Chefs, Restaurant Owners, Food Service Suppliers, Culinary & Hospitality Professionals, and Industry Stakeholders

For the past eight years, SA Chef Media has proudly served the culinary industry, publishing 53 editions of the SA Chef Magazine, building an engaging digital platform, and growing a vibrant social media community that celebrates the people, businesses, and stories shaping South Africa’s foodservice ecosystem. Your support has been central to this journey, and for that, we sincerely thank you.

Today, we are excited to share an important evolution.

SA Chef Media is rebranding to Gastronomy Africa, an independent media platform dedicated to the chef and culinary community across the continent.

Gastronomythe art and knowledge of preparing and enjoying good food – reflects the broader, more holistic lens at the heart of our rebrand and new chapter within the African culinary ecosystem.

While firmly rooted in South Africa, we are actively expanding our ecosystem, beginning with the SADC region. This growth allows us to spotlight culinary talent, unlock cross-border opportunities, and build stronger connections between chefs, entrepreneurs, hospitality and restaurant associations, tourism bodies, consumer and B2B events, brands, and institutions across the region.

This evolution allows us to:

  • Spotlight more exceptional talent across borders
  • Unlock new opportunities for collaboration
  • Strengthen connections between chefs, restaurateurs, entrepreneurs, hospitality and restaurant associations, tourism bodies, B2B and consumer events, brands, and training institutions

Rather than focusing solely on the mandate of a single association, we have broadened our scope to include other associations connected to the food and hospitality industry across South Africa and the SADC region.

With this growth in mind, and as South Africa’s most widely read trade publication, we are expanding our role to become the voice of the associations and entities shaping our industry. While we remain proud of our longstanding relationship with SACA and its core focus on training and development, we will also spotlight the initiatives, insights and impact of other organisations doing exceptional work within our sector.

While our mission remains rooted in service to the industry, our reach and mandate have expanded significantly. We will launch a refreshed media plan that advances our long-term mission: helping you build sustainable culinary businesses and careers, while identifying gaps and opportunities across the value chain.

While our name and partnerships are evolving, our values remain unchanged. We remain deeply committed to quality storytelling, meaningful industry engagement, and delivering tangible value to you – our community.

In the coming weeks, we will officially transition to our new identity.

We invite you to journey with us as we build a stronger, more connected gastronomy ecosystem across Africa.

Warm regards,

The SA Chef Media Team (soon to be Gastronomy Africa)
