The SA Chefs Association is excited to announce that entries for the ‘Plant-Based Chef of the Year’ competition are now open.
The competition occurs live at The Good Life Show, which takes place 31 May to 2 June 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Not only will the winners, in both the junior and senior categories, be named ‘Plant-Based Chef of the Year’, but they will also be given the opportunity to take part in the 2028 Culinary Olympics.

Competition Criteria
- Upon registering for the competition, all participants to submit: ID, Proof of SA Chefs Membership, Letter of Motivation, Resume and Portfolio
- All participants must be registered members of the South African Chefs Association in order to compete in the competition.
- All dishes prepared in this competition must be 100% vegan/plant-based; no animal products are allowed.
- Competitors should possess fundamental culinary skills necessary to execute their chosen dishes effectively and demonstrate originality and creativity in their dishes.
- Participants should demonstrate good sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Categories
Competitors may choose to enter one or more of the following categories:
- Hot Kitchen – Individuals
- Exhibitions – Culinary Arts & Pastry Arts.
Judging Criteria
Dishes will be evaluated based on taste, presentation, creativity, and adherence to the vegan/plant-based requirement. A panel of esteemed judges will evaluate each dish and select the winners.
