Rhodes Quality has partnered with famed SA braai man, Jan Braai (real name Jan Scannell) for the sixth annual National Braai Tour as the official pantry sponsor and host of celebrity chef team George Mnguni (OK Wasabi) and Sebastian Newman
The 2019 National Braai Tour kicks-off from Cape Town on the 7th of September and ends in Gariep Dam on the 13th of September with 300 participants, who will enjoy seven days of road-tripping, sharing world-class braai meals, made with Rhodes Quality products – from sweetcorn, beans, tomatoes, chakalaka and relishes, gherkins and beetroot to new pickled onions, Rhodes Quality adds flavour to any braai.
“The aim of the National Braai Tour is to encourage all South Africans to unite around fires, celebrate our rich heritage and wave our beautiful flag in an act of social cohesion to unite people by utilising braaing, a SA pastime with typical South African gees,” says founder, Jan Braai who is renowned for his braai recipes, ingredients and unique cooking methods.
“The Rhodes Quality range of tasty canned veg, fruit, 100% juice and salad products makes Rhodes Quality the ideal partner to complete any braai,” says Merlin Norman, Head of Marketing at Rhodes Quality. “Being the pantry sponsor at the National Braai Tour is a natural fit with Jan Braai’s philosophy of uniting South Africans around a fire as we believe that food brings people together around a table, to enjoy more than a meal; it’s about the time spent with friends and family and the special memories shared.”
She continues, “Our Rhodes Quality range of products for the tour’s pantry will bring colour and flavour to any braai, including braai sides and salads, meat marinades, glazes, salad dressings, and more.”
“We’re incredibly excited to join the #BraaiTour this year by providing all the delicious ingredients needed to prepare and make the great feasts for the participants,” she says. “From our Rhodes Quality 100% juice for breakfast and to use in marinades, to canned beans, gherkins, beetroot and pickled onions to prepare delicious braai sides, everything will be made available on the tour for the participants.”
“The braai tour participants will be spoilt for choice daily when they get to fill their braai bags with delicious ingredients from the Rhodes Quality braai tour pantry,” she says. “What’s more, we have included our very own Rhodes Quality #BraaiTour team with celebrity chefs, George Mnguni (OK Wasabi) and Sebasitan Newman participating, so our loyal followers can get a taste of the tour via social media.”
On what he is most looking forward to, Sebastian Newman said: “I am excited to explore more of South Africa, places I wouldn’t generally go to and of course adding my own sweet flavour and creating some different braai dishes using Rhodes Quality products – I mean who doesn’t love a braai?”
“I decided to join the braai tour because it’s been on my bucket list for years and celebrating something so near and dear to us as South Africans is sure to be something that we all can be proud of.”
For George Mnguni it is about the quality food, adventure, meeting new people, and getting away from the city for a few days.
“I really look forward to the amazing braai food we get to cook, I look forward to creating some fruity marinades using the Rhodes Quality juices and just being on the actual braai tour. I think the last time I went camping, I was in primary school. So I’m looking forward to getting away from it all and just seeing a part of South Africa that I have never seen before.”
The celebrity chef team with 300 participants from all across the globe will hit the road on the 8th of September from Cape Town to Kam’Bati River Resort near Swellendam, where the first fires will be lit.
The next two days will see the tour in Calitzdorp with day 4 with a stop in Beaufort West in the beautiful Karoo National Park. The teams then head out towards Graaff-Reinet where they will create a feast at the Botanical Sports Grounds. The tour ends at the Gariep Dam, Forever Resort.
