As a market-leading heritage brand and a key ingredient in many of South Africa’s most exquisite and award-winning culinary creations, Snowflake invites all industry professionals – both qualified and aspiring – to take part in the inaugural Snowflake Ultimate Creations Competition.
From corporate kitchens to the restaurant and hospitality industry, to franchised and independent bakeries alike, all professionals are welcome – if you’ve got what it takes, then this competition is the one for you!
The cook, chef or baker to produce the final winning dish, will walk away with R25 000 cash and a fantastic patisserie course from FBI Chef School & Patisserie Academy, worth R55 000. In addition, the runner-up will win R10 000 cash!
The competition begins in September and ends in October 2021. Within those two months, all your showstopping entries will be judged by the finest industry professionals from the FBI Chef School & Patisserie Academy.
How does the Snowflake Ultimate Creations Competition Work?
In September and October 2021, entrants will need to create the following themed creations:
Month 1: September – South African cuisine theme. Recreate a South African dish or baked product (from scratch) and include a secret family ingredient that has been passed down for generations. 10 submissions will then be shortlisted and baked/cooked as per recipe and 2 finalists/winners are chosen.
Month 2: October – Dessert theme. Create an out-of-this-world dessert inspired by ‘shape’ (from scratch). 10 submissions will be shortlisted and baked/cooked as per the recipe, and 2 finalists/winners are chosen.
Month 3: November – GRAND FINALE: Christmas Cake theme. Create a unique Christmas cake recipe (from scratch). The 4 finalists (2 winners from the previous two themes) will compete for the prizes up for grabs, the prestigious golden Snowflake trophy, and the title of Snowflake’s Ultimate Creations winner for 2021!
Entry Requirements
Each challenge requires an original recipe that belongs to you.
When documenting the entry, the following needs to be shared through picture or video:
- Preparation stage
- Process stage
- Final product/dish stage
- Submit a clear individual photo of yourself in the kitchen
*Remember that all videos/pictures need to be clearly visible to enable adequate judging.
September and October Challenges
Submit a full recipe with ingredients and methodology to allow the judges to make the recipe for the selection of finalists.
Judging phase 1 – September submissions/entries: 10 submissions will be shortlisted.
Criteria – originality, creativity, overall presentation, utilisation of Snowflake product/s as a hero product, taste & texture, and technical skills. Recipes without participating Snowflake products will be disqualified. Closing date – 30 September 2021, 24:00.
Judging phase 2 – October submissions/entries: 10 submissions will be baked or cooked and the best two will be finalists for Grand Finale.
Criteria – originality, creativity, overall presentation, utilisation of Snowflake product/s as a hero product, taste and texture and technical skills. Recipes without participating Snowflake products will be disqualified. Closing date – 31 October 2021, 24:00.
November – Grand Finale stage: 4 finalists to compete at the FBI Chefs School kitchen.
Criteria – originality, creativity, overall presentation, utilisation of Snowflake product/s as a hero product, taste and texture and technical skills. Recipes without participating Snowflake products will be disqualified.
Christmas Cake Challenge: Our four finalists will go head-to-head for the annual Gold Snowflake title and trophy with the ultimate Christmas cake challenge.

How to Enter
Through an exclusive, private and moderated Facebook group, open only to professionals. Find us on Facebook by searching ‘Snowflake Ultimate Creations’. In this group, we will communicate the entry mechanic, competition terms and conditions, and prizing. You will then be required to submit your entry in this Facebook group.
Winners will be announced once a month via Snowflake social media and SA Chef Media platforms.
