Department of Tourism invites applications for Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning Programme for chefs in Mpumalanga

The Department of Tourism invites applications for the Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Programme for chefs in Mpumalanga. This fully funded initiative provides an opportunity for experienced chefs who do not yet hold a formal qualification to obtain the Chef Occupational Qualification (SAQA ID 101697) through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

Upon successful completion, graduates will be awarded a Chef Occupational Certificate aligned to the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 5. Tuition fees and study materials are covered in full by the Department of Tourism. Support for travel and accommodation will be provided where necessary.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be 19 years or older
  • ⁠Be a South African citizen
  • ⁠Have completed a minimum of Grade 10 (Standard 8)
  • ⁠Have at least 3 years’ experience working as a chef in a brigade kitchen
  • ⁠Be able to read, write, and speak English
  • ⁠Be available to attend a couple of classes in Polokwane over a period of a month – not full time and learners will be scheduled to attend classes once a week (assistance will be provided with transportation and accommodation)
