After nearly two years of isolation, the food industry has finally bounced back with the Eat Out Woolworths Restaurant Awards 2022. Hosted in the Grand Arena in Cape Town on Sunday evening, this was the first time the awards celebrated the industry’s resilience.

This year, following an industry-wide demand, the awards featured a brand new restaurant rating system, ranking nominated restaurants between one and three. In addition, 12 special awards were also given to individuals, restaurants, chefs and food personalities making innovative and meaningful changes in the industry.

In addition to being the host city, Cape Town also saw over 30 wins in various categories for eateries all over the city. However, the ultimate winner of the night, The Livingroom at the Summerhill guest estate in KwaZulu-Natal, was awarded the Eat Out Woolworth’s Restaurant of the Year 2022 award.

Some notable winners of the 1-star award went to Beyond (Constantia), Chefs Warehouse at Tintswalo Bay (Hout Bay), and Clara’s Barn (Somerset West). Some winners of the 2-star category included Belly of the Beast (City Bowl, Cape Town), Foxcroft (Constantia) and FYN (City Bowl, Cape Town). Some of the 3-star winners went to La Colombe (Constantia) PIER Restaurant (V&A Waterfront) and Salsify at the Roundhouse (Camps Bay).

Notable winners in the 12 special categories include Mbabatho Molefe from Emazulwini restaurant in the Waterfront, who won the Eat Out Naked Malt Rising Star Award, and Dusk from Stellenbosch, who won the Eat Out Retail Capital Best New Restaurant Award.
