Katlego Mlambo headlines Afrique Moderne dinner series at Les Créatifs

Celebrated South African chef Katlego Mlambo, known for his sophisticated and rebellious reinvention of African flavours, is taking centre stage in the latest Afrique Moderne dinner series at Les Créatifs. Curated by Chef Wandile Mabaso, the series unites top culinary talents in a powerful collaboration – but it is Mlambo’s daring creativity and award-winning skill that leads this new chapter.

A recipient of the prestigious Best Chef – One Knife Award, Katlego has earned a reputation for combining deep cultural storytelling with refined, contemporary cuisine. His dishes infuse nostalgia, identity and even social commentary – all while remaining playful and bold.

“In the beginning, I wanted to show that traditional flavours could be cool and modern,” says Mlambo. “Now it’s deeper. Every plate carries a story about memory, resistance and roots – and being able to share that alongside His collaboration with Les Créatifs and Wandile Mabaso forms part of a growing movement led by young African chefs who are redefining what fine dining on the continent can be. With Chef Katlego born and raised in Eldorado Park & Chef Wandile hailing for Soweto it’s no wonder that the flavours are a culinary treat for the taste buds.

Chef Mabaso’s Afrique Moderne philosophy – combining French technique with indigenous South African ingredients – forms the framework, and it is Katlego’s audacious flair and soulful approach that adds a fresh heartbeat to the collaboration.

“Katlego’s voice is vital to this movement,” Mabaso says. “He brings fire, precision and cultural honesty to the table. His food speaks – and people are listening.”

The dinner series also complements the wider experimentation happening in the Les Créatifs kitchen: dishes that reflect both innovation and heritage. Mlambo’s own menu contributions layer flavours with narrative intention and a distinctly modern edge.

With this collaboration, Katlego steps not only into a shared spotlight – but into a leadership role within a new wave of African culinary artistry.
