This July 18th we’ll once again celebrate Mandela Day, a day where people around the world are encouraged to spend 67 minutes doing something positive for their communities.
La Colombe Head Chef, Jess van Dyk and her team are eager to do their bit and came up with the idea to ‘turn minutes into meals’ for the children in the Hout Bay Community.
Teaming up with iKhaya le Themba (Home of Hope), who feed 92 kids a day, the team at La Colombe plan to do something special within their immediate Imizamo Yethu community.
IKhaya le Themba offers holistic care and family support for orphaned and vulnerable children, as they face the effects of poverty, HIV & AIDS, trauma and learning difficulties.
The La Colombe chefs who recently placed on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Will be making a special healthy and nutritious African-style Umngqusho for the kids.
“Nelson Mandela left an amazing legacy, giving South Africans the gift of change, and we wanted to play a small role in making a difference in our community here in Hout Bay. Through Madiba, we learned that every individual the power to transform the world – even in a small way, and we are so pleased to be part of this initiative, and perhaps make a small impact somehow on this special day.” Head Chef, Jess van Dyk
