The latest lockdown restrictions, which came into effect on 28 June 2021, have dealt another blow to local chefs, restaurateurs and foodservice businesses.

These include a two-week ban on alcohol sales for both on-site and off-site consumption, and restaurants are prohibited from serving sit-down customers – only takeaways or deliveries are allowed.

Adjusted Alert Level 4 during Lockdown

  • Curfews are now in place from 9pm to 4am, with all places of business expected to close at 8pm.
  • Any person who fails to abide by the curfew will be liable to a fine or 6 months prison time – or both.
  • lnterprovincial travel for leisure to and from Gauteng is prohibited.
  • All gatherings are prohibited except when at a workplace or for the buying of goods and services.
  • All social gatherings are prohibited until 11 July 2021. This includes religious, political, cinemas, casinos, museums, galleries, archives and libraries, gyms and fitness centres, conferencing, exhibitions and entertainment facilities, beaches, parks and dams.
  • Hotels may continue to operate under strict adherence to protocols, such as 50 percent of the capacity of the available rooms for accommodation, with patrons observing a distance of at least one and a half metres from each other when in common spaces. Dining facilities in hotels, lodges, bed and breakfasts, timeshare facilities, resorts and guest houses are permitted for room service and delivery only.
  • Sporting events and facilities may operate under extremely strict protocols, which can be found on www.sacoronavirus.co.za
