Stylish Schoone Oordt Country House in Swellendam is presenting a mouth-watering gourmet weekend on 28 and 29 May 2021 to showcase the culinary stars of the historical town, and further afield.
The charming country hotel is situated in the heart of Swellendam, which connects the Overberg to the Garden Route, a 220km drive from Cape Town. It is owner-managed by Alison and Richard Walker, who have a passion for people, family, food, wine and the environment. Schoone Oordt is famed for its on-site Conservatory Restaurant and the extravagant 3-course breakfast feast that is served daily. The emphasis here is on unpretentious, unaffected luxury, elegance, quality, love and attention to detail as part of the guest experience. Luxury accommodation is set within a sprawling, lush gardens surrounding a sparkling saltwater swimming pool.
Foodies and wine enthusiasts will be treated to a 4-course Italian fine dining dinner experience at La Sosta Restaurant, prepared by chef couple Salvatore and Nina Branda. The Italian feast will be paired with Sijnn Wines using interesting blends of Mediterranean-style varieties that have been grown to suit the South African climate.
The second dinner will feature a decadent dinner at Schoone Oordt’s elegant Conservatory Restaurant, prepared by guest chef Jason Whitehead who draws his inspiration from the unique and intense flavours of India, Thailand and France. The menu will be perfectly paired with wines from Olivedale, which reveals the mysteries of nature by allowing nature to prescribe as much as possible during the winemaking process.
The gourmet weekend also includes a delectable lunch at Swellendam popular landmark Tredici, fusing Cape Dutch, Italian and delicate French flavours in simple dishes. Making full use of its beautiful riverside setting, a picnic lunch will be presented by Grace + Merci, the new venture of Swellendam personality Bev Missing, who is well known as the creator of Rain Bath & Body products.
Guests will be accommodated in one of eight luxury rooms at Schoone Oordt, each equipped with every modern convenience, whilst retaining the Victorian feel of the Manor House and a bygone era with carefully curated antique pieces.
